Upwards of 20,000 elephants are killed each year across Africa to supply illicit ivory markets. While countries continue to squabble over the ivory trade, African elephant numbers continue to fall. Time is not on their side. Elephant numbers have dropped by more than 60 percent over the last decade due to habitat loss and poaching.
